Let’s Talk food!

So let’s talk about what you can expect each morning when visiting Four Seasons B&B at Catawba Point.  Being the” new kid on the block” when it comes to the local B&B’s,  I thought it important to share with you some details regarding us as B&B proprietors and the dishes that may pop up on our breakfast menus.

First, know that even though Four Seasons B&B is “the new kid” in town, we are by far NOT new to the B&B arena.  The original Four Seasons… Bed, Breakfast & Barn….. was located at our gentleman farm just outside of Columbus, OH and was in operation for about 12 years.  Similar to our location here on Catawba Point, we were a small, family run B&B providing comfortable lodging and farm to table gourmet breakfasts, while sharing our love for the farm and animals.

One of the many reasons we continue to take B&B reservations via email / phone is we prefer the personal touch, right from the start.  Conversation while booking always includes questions regarding  likes/dislikes of breakfast foods, food allergies, special requests,  etc.  We want every aspect of your stay to be all you want and more,  including a memorable breakfast!

I have compiled recipe binders over the years which hold tried & true recipes, many dating back to my childhood and splattered with years of use.  Some of the recipes included were special requests and family recipes shared from previous B&B guests.  Being raised in a (partial) Italian household in Youngstown, my love for ethnic food is just a given.  Many of the recipes used have ethnic roots; yes, even for breakfast!

Most importantly, we are continuing the tradition of using the freshest local ingredients, many farm raised just minutes away.  I am a strong believer in fresh, made from scratch food using top notch ingredients to promote  good health.   We buy  local, farm raised eggs for our entrée dishes as well as fresh fruits & vegetables from the many produce stands here on Catawba. 2017 was our first year as a CSA member of Shared Legacy Farms, as well; we enjoyed fresh, organically raised produce all Spring, Summer & Fall with plenty to “put up” for winter use.  (We also purchased a cheese share and enjoyed some of the finest locally made cheeses; our B&B guests will find this to be the perfect compliment to an evening glass of wine from our local vineyards…..(to be reviewed in another blog post.)

Each morning, guest are offered  fresh squeezed orange juice and hot brewed coffee, or tea to accompany the daily breakfast starter.  Foods highlighting the Summer seasons, such as sweet, juicy Catawba peaches are served in a fruit compote or breakfast cobbler or coffee cake.  During the Fall & Winter months, baked apples, brimming with oatmeal, raisins, cinnamon & nuts or buttery skillet apples provide a warm start to the day.

Entrée favorites include a summer vegetable frittata, blueberry cornmeal pancakes served with orange maple butter, baked egg cups with artichokes & parmesan and caramelized French toast with vanilla pears.  Whether sweet or savory, all are made from scratch to order with the finest local ingredients.

Fresh from the oven baked goods accompany each breakfast entrée ; Ella’s sour cream coffee cake, apricot, white chocolate & walnut scones and lemon tea bread have been some of the favorite guest requests.  Cherry strudel and Mom’s fruit filled sweet rolls have received rave reviews.  But,  over the years, I’d have to say that Mom’s Pecan Sticky buns are tops on the list of all time B&B favorite breakfast items. They are delicate and gooey and full of fresh, toasted pecans for a little added crunch.  With a cup of steamy, freshly ground coffee, these breakfast delicacies just can’t be beat!!

Breakfast times are flexible to accommodate your daily plans and we even offer breakfast to go, with advanced notice.  Seating arrangements are based on the seasons, as well, to include dining alfresco on one of the outdoor patios, in the Four Seasons Room, overlooking the lake, or in the formal dining room near the warming fire in the chilly months.  Bon Appetit !
